The parallel groove clamp is mainly used for connecting small- and medium-section aluminum strands or steel-core aluminum strands, as well as the steel strands of overhead lightning arrester lines at the return position, where no tension is applied. It is also used for jumper connections on non-linear towers.
The H-type parallel groove clamp belongs to a compression structure and is made of pure aluminum or aluminum alloy. Once installed, it cannot be removed.
The clamp is named because its cross-section resembles the letter "H." With the help of a special hydraulic press, the clamp can be compressed together with the two wires to be connected. After crimping, the contact part forms an elliptical cylindrical shape with a compact structure. Similar to the wedge-type parallel groove clamp, the compression process is controlled by the output pressure of the hydraulic press, with little human influence. The H-type parallel groove clamp can connect two wires of equal or different diameters, and the range of wire diameters that can fit within the same groove generally covers 3–4 specifications.

When the H-type parallel groove clamp is connected to a conductor, the circumferential force causes the aluminum on the inner wall of the clamp to undergo plastic deformation, embedding into the gaps between the outer strands of the conductor. This results in a large effective contact surface. The grip strength of the H-type parallel groove clamp on the wire is about 40%–65% of the calculated breaking force of the conductor.
